Summer Food Service positions

Duty dates and hours for all positions will vary according to the location and duties assigned. Applicants should be available to work every day of the Summer Food Program, which runs from June 3rd - July 26, 2024.  Due to the participation of sites, this could change.

KITCHEN MANAGER FOR THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM

HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL
Qualifications: Applicants must have practical experience in food service operations. Also, must have management experience and be willing to take complete responsibility for food preparation, ordering, and the kitchen personnel for the Summer Food Service Program.

SITE SUPERVISOR FOR THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM

SITE LOCATIONS
Qualifications: Applicants must have thorough and complete knowledge of satellite foodservice operations or equivalent experience in quantity food preparation and service. A site supervisor travels from various sites, inspects the sites, and conducts on-the-job training of service personnel. A site supervisor must have accurate knowledge of food service regulations and be able to provide mentoring to correct any violations that may be occurring. A site supervisor also fills out various reports and submits them to the General Director of Child Nutrition Services/Child Nutrition Specialist for approval. Must have a current driver’s license.

 

CHILD NUTRITION WORKERS FOR THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM
HIGHLAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL AND/OR SATELLITE OPERATIONS:
Qualifications: Applicants must have knowledge of food preparation in all departments; safety and sanitation regulations for proper food production and storage; proper use and care of equipment, and personal habits to ensure that sanitation standards are met. Applicants must also be able to: perform assigned tasks with minimum supervision; work in confined warm areas and in harmony with fellow employees. The ability to lift heavy ingredients, food items, and/or equipment will be necessary if assigned to Highland Park High School.
Responsibilities: Follows the Manager/Site Supervisor and/or Child Nutrition Specialist's instructions in preparing and serving food. Must have knowledge of and adhere to proper practices of food safety, preparation, and sanitation. Proper use and care of equipment, and personal habits to ensure sanitation standards are met. Demonstrate the ability to work with administrators and staff. Also, it assists with any phase of the kitchen or related operations as deemed necessary by the manager. Will set up the serving line, serve meals, and complete necessary documentation, as instructed. In most cases, satellite workers will be expected to work alone or with little support.

Hours and rate of pay will vary according to the position assigned. All summer personnel MUST ATTEND a KSDE mandated meeting on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, from 12:00 PM -2:00 PM in the Burnett Center Conference Board Room, 624 SW 24th Street.  Please park in the lower parking lot.

 

CURRENT USD 501 employees must complete an online "internal" application available at www.topekapublicschools.net. Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 1st, 2024. Letters of interest will not be accepted. Based on positions and sites some employees will be required to start prior to June 3, 2024.
